Poker Playing Cards
"Poker” or “bridge” format?
There are two formats of poker cards in the market:
- Playing cards with "poker" or "wide" format are usually 62mm x 88mm
- Playing cards with "bridge", also called "standard", "regular" or even "narrow" format are usually 57mm x 89mm
However there are many other formats of playing cards, such as:
- Playing cards with "French" format are usually 55mm x 84mm
- Playing cards with "tarot" format are usually 69mm x 113mm
Although purists will not like it... you should know that many casinos and poker rooms use cards with "bridge" format, as they are easier to manipulate and deal the cards with "poker" format. However, most poker players prefer to play with "poker" format.
The poker cards index:
The index is the size of the value of the card.
They are 2 sizes of common index cards: Regular (small) and Jumbo (large). Jumbo cards are larger than the Regular cards, and so easier to read the index.
Regular Index Jumbo Index
There are also double index, which carry both jumbo and Regular index, such as Fournier Poker Vision 100% plastic cards.
When choosing the index cards, it is important to do it in function of the number of players who will play the game. If you play on large tables with many friends, it is recommended to choose the Jumbo index for easy reading of the game and the Flop, Turn and River.
Poker Cards material:
The most unpleasant thing for a poker player ais playing with cards in poor condition, marked or crossed.
You will find two types of material used: plastic coated poker cards and 100% plastic poker cards.
- Plastic coated poker cards:
They are made with a thin layer of plastic. You can not wash them. If you play often with them, you will have to change them regularly.
